I was/ In paradise was a forty one day forty one night, site specific durational performance taking place in California’s Mojave Desert. The work investigates the instability of testimony, the survival of speech without guaranteed audience, and the interiority of the artist under extreme environmental and temporal conditions. During I was / In paradise, curated dinners with Vinson took place on a scheduled basis. Visitors were invited to arrive with fresh meat, a vegetable, and five gallons of water. Upon gathering, participants collectively prepared and shared a meal while engaging in conversation guided by a topic selected by Vinson.
